Brainstorming business strategy:
Every business manager needs to be a business strategist. Yet this skill – one of many – is not always easy to acquire. Also, traditional strategic planning entails time-consuming and sophisticated analyses of all aspects of performance. A daunting task!
Nevertheless strategic considerations are addressed on a day to day basis at every business level from corporate-wide to individual tasks.
The most common strategic tasks fall into one of these categories:
- Ideas and innovation
- Problem solving
- Relationship analysis
- Business Decisions
Corporate Signpost can be applied in each of these situations to provide insights and inspiration in a fraction of the time. Numerical analysis can be tightly focussed and cost effective. At the same time the gamification inherent in the application encourages ideas and motivation.
Why not replace a time-consuming process with one that’s fast, fun, and easy to use? Business doesn’t have to be a drag!
Allow your intuition to flow.
There are no wrong interpretations of images but click here and go to ‘The Deck of Cards – Intuitive insights’ for a few tips to get you started.
Use as many cards as you like and create your own designations for the context of each card. Look at some practical applications in our the case studies.
Examples of Uses:
Ideas and innovation: When generating new ideas (maybe for a new book, an advertising campaign, product, or TV show) Corporate Signpost overcomes the four main hindrances to creative thinking – stress, logic, language, and peer pressure. For individuals or groups it liberates ideas quickly, on demand.
Open the search by setting the focus. Shuffle the deck and draw cards at random – a single card for a general pointer; a series of cards for a range of ideas eg executive gifts; three cards for start, middle and end of a new TV drama.
Study the images to release unconscious knowledge and new perspectives. Even a card that appears “wrong” serves to consolidate your own opinion.
Draw extra cards for further illumination.
Problem solving: Business problems are often multi-faceted and overwhelmingly complex. Hastily addressing urgent symptoms risks impeding the understanding of underlying issues and preventing full recovery.
By tapping into hidden knowledge and integrating logic and intuition Corporate Signpost provides a speedy mechanism for diagnosing the root of problems, identifying obstacles and formulating solutions. It stimulates new insights through the synthesis of all influencing factors.
Focus on the problem, shuffle the deck and select three cards at random to represent the underlying problem, the main obstacle to its solution, and the key to the way forward. Draw extra cards for clarification or for alternative solutions.
Relationship analysis: Business is built of relationships – with stakeholders; between members of staff; between new systems and existing operations; between companies.
They are especially complex and often defeat numerical analysis. The logical answer is not always the right one and a gut hunch may sway opinion. Gut hunches, the subconscious synthesis of information gathered without conscious awareness, are risky because they are undefined. Corporate Signpost helps us to understand and have confidence in our gut hunches – or to dismiss them.
To test a relationship, set the focus and draw four cards at random –subject; other party; synergy between them; outcome of their interaction.
Let your intuition reveal the thinking behind your gut hunch. Draw additional cards for clarification.
Business decisions: Business operations are based on decisions – choices between options, solutions, or relationships; whether to proceed and how to prioritise.
By integrating logical analyses with intuitive insights the toolkit facilitates informed decisions.
For each option set the focus, shuffle the deck and select cards at random:
- a single card to indicate potential outcome
- two cards to show positive and negative aspects
- three cards(current situation, proposed change, synergy) to assess best fit
- a simple 4-card analysis of Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, Threat
Use the chosen approach consistently across options.
Draw additional cards if you need to.
